Manchester United (MU) striker Joshua Zirkzee defended his goalkeeper Andre Onana after his teammate made a fatal error in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Lyon which ended 2-2 at the Groupama Stadium, Friday WIB.
United manager Ruben Amorim said "one player makes a mistake, the whole team makes a mistake" when asked about Onana's performance after the match.
When asked if Amorim's feelings were shared by Zirkzee, the Dutch player said, "One hundred percent. We are a team, so we are not going to send someone off for making a mistake. That's ridiculous," Zirkzee was quoted as saying by AFP on Friday.
Onana's two fatal errors in the match heated up the war of words that had previously been launched by Lyon midfielder and former Red Devils player, Nemanja Matic.
Matic said Onana was "one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United's history", after responding to the Cameroonian's claim that United were "much better" than Lyon.
