Why should smartphones be restarted?

Expert Yelena Maximova, head of the Intelligent Information Security Systems Department at the Technical University, recommends rebooting your smartphone at least once a week.

The expert points out that this is a simple process in which the device first shuts down completely and then restarts.
She says, "One of the reasons for regularly restarting a smartphone is to free up RAM. Smartphones come with a large amount of RAM, but over time, it becomes filled with running apps and background processes that don't always close properly. This can slow down the phone and increase its response time. Restarting frees up RAM, allowing the device to run faster and more efficiently."

The expert points out that minor errors and software glitches may occur during smartphone operation, often going unnoticed. However, their accumulation can lead to unstable device operation. Therefore, rebooting helps refresh system resources and fix temporary issues. It also helps improve energy efficiency, as background processes and applications consume more power over time, draining the battery faster.

She says, "It's recommended to restart your smartphone at least once a week, as it helps keep the device in optimal condition and prevents the accumulation of errors and temporary glitches. However, if the phone is used extensively for games or resource-intensive applications, it can be restarted every 2-3 days."

According to her, a reboot is not a substitute for regular software updates, removing unnecessary apps, and clearing the cache, as all of these measures combined help maintain the device's efficient and stable performance.
