The Russian army has surrounded seaports in the Nikolaev region

Kherson Oblast Governor Vladimir Saldo reported that commercial seaports in Ukraine's Mykolaiv Oblast are being surrounded by Russian forces from the Kinburn Peninsula.

"Ships leaving the enemy-controlled ports of Mykolaiv are being blocked by our forces from the Kinburn Peninsula," Saldo told RIA Novosti.

He added that the outlet of the Dnieper River and the Southern Bug to the Dnieper-Bug estuary and then to the Black Sea also remains blocked to enemy floating assets. The governor emphasized that "the ports of Kherson are under the direct fire control of our forces. There are no commercial or transport vessels there."

The Ukrainian Nikolayev Oblast is bordered to the east by Kherson Oblast, and the Kinburn Peninsula lies between the mouth of the Dnieper-Bug River and the Yagorlitsk Bay of the Black Sea.

Kherson Oblast is a region of Russia located in the lower reaches of the Dnieper River, bordering the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

The region was reunited with the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. The Ukrainian side does not recognize the legitimacy of this referendum and continues to bomb the region.

Russia currently controls 75% of Kherson Oblast, while parts of the right bank of the Dnieper River, including the city of Kherson, remain under Ukrainian control.
