The Pakistani military announced the elimination of eight militants who attempted to infiltrate across the Pakistani-Afghan border in the North Waziristan area of ​​Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the north of the country.

The Pakistani military said in a statement Sunday evening that security forces had monitored the movements of a group of militants attempting to infiltrate across the Pakistani-Afghan border in the Hassan Khel area of ​​North Waziristan.

The statement indicated that Pakistani forces successfully repelled and thwarted a terrorist infiltration attempt, and that "eight terrorists were killed and four others were wounded after an intense exchange of fire."

The statement reiterated Pakistan's call on the Afghan interim government to strengthen border protection on the Afghan side, and for Kabul to fulfill its security commitments and prevent the use of Afghan territory to carry out terrorist acts against Pakistan. The statement emphasized that Pakistani forces continue their operations in the region with the aim of eliminating any remaining terrorist elements there.

According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, the country witnessed a sharp increase (42%) in terrorist attacks in January 2025 compared to the previous month.

The data showed that at least 74 armed attacks were recorded across the country, resulting in the deaths of 91 people, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people were wounded, including 53 security personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
