In a post on Telegram, the Daraa Governorate said, "The General Security in the governorate seized a truck loaded with various weapons and anti-tank missiles, which were being smuggled from Damascus to the Sweida Governorate (south)."
Earlier on Sunday, the same source reported that "General Security forces are conducting a raid in the western region north of the city of Dael and west of the city of Ibtaa (in Daraa Governorate), targeting a gang involved in arms theft and arms trafficking in the area."
These security operations come as part of the authorities' efforts to crack down on arms smuggling networks and illegal activities, particularly in the south of the country, which has witnessed increased activity by armed groups.
On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control.
On January 29, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of Ahmed al-Sharaa as president for a transitional period scheduled to last five years.
