Syria: Qatari delegation in Damascus to discuss enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise

According to a statement on its Telegram channel, the Syrian Ministry of Interior stated, "Interior Minister Anas Khattab met with a delegation from the State of Qatar in Damascus."

She added: "The Qatari delegation was headed by the Commander of the Support and Backup Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Lieutenant Colonel Saleh Abdul Wahab Al-Muhannadi, and the Director of International Cooperation, Lieutenant Colonel Falah Abdullah Al-Dosari, and included the Commander of the Search and Rescue Group, Major Khaled Abdullah Al-Humaidi."

She continued: "During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance security and police cooperation and exchange expertise in areas of joint work, which would contribute to supporting common interests and enhancing coordination between the two sides."

On April 17, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara made his first visit to the Qatari capital, Doha, since assuming the presidency in January. During the visit, he met with Emir Tamim bin Hamad and discussed cooperation between the two countries.

That same evening, he posted on the X platform that his country would not forget Qatar's "sincere stance and unwavering support," considering strengthening relations between Damascus and Doha a "fundamental pillar" in consolidating stability for the peoples of both countries.

On January 30, the Emir of Qatar was the first head of state to visit Damascus after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime (2000-2024).

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, after seizing control of other cities, ending 61 years of Ba'ath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control.
