The South Kalimantan Regional Police are preparing to harvest 30 hectares of corn, which for the first time in Indonesia has been planted on swamp land in Gambut District, Banjar, to support the national food security program.
"Thank God, the corn that we planted grew well and is ready to be harvested, this is the only corn planting in Indonesia on wet land or swamp land," said South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan in Banjarbaru, Wednesday.
Yudha conveyed the plan, namely after the harvest was carried out together with the South Kalimantan regional leadership coordination forum, the next step would be to increase the area of land cleared for planting corn and horticultural crops.
This involves the South Kalimantan Agriculture and Food Security Service.
The Regional Police Chief said that the corn plants were almost three months old since planting on January 21, 2025.
The planting activity coincided with the simultaneous national planting of one million hectares of corn led by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman.
Yudha expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between agencies in realizing the Asta Cita program of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
He said that food security land is a concrete step to ensure the availability of food for the community.
"We hope that the synergy between the government, TNI, Polri, and related stakeholders can continue to be improved," he said.
