Russia: Artificial intelligence helps uncover fraud networks

Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk announced that Russian security forces have uncovered a network of fraudsters using virtual servers in Europe to remotely control calls.

"The Russian Interior Ministry's police force is making extensive use of AI technologies to process massive amounts of data," Volk wrote on her Telegram channel. "This allows us to identify networks used by fraudsters and collect data on their activities."

She added, "The police used artificial intelligence to analyze large amounts of data and identify the fraudsters' infrastructure. As a result of the operation, 28 SIM card boxes and two SIM card banks were identified in five regions, 7,000 numbers linked to fraudulent schemes were identified, 15 telecom contract organizers were arrested, and equipment, thousands of SIM cards, and documents were seized."

Volk noted that the operation to uncover and pursue the fraudsters' network took place in several Russian regions, including the Amur, Bryansk, Lipetsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Smolensk, and Yaroslavl regions, as well as in the Chuvashia region, Bashkortostan, and the Stavropol Territory. Criminal cases were opened under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (the article on fraud), and several measures were taken against those arrested.
