The U.S. Secret Service plans to spend nearly $2 million from the government budget to upgrade security systems at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
According to The Independent, "Donald Trump's private resort will receive a taxpayer-funded upgrade to its security system at a cost of nearly $2 million amid cuts to education and healthcare," the newspaper wrote.
According to the newspaper, the project includes the installation of alarm, notification, and detection systems. CMN, a company specializing in the installation of security and video surveillance systems, was selected.
According to procurement documents revealed by The Independent, the Secret Service has already spent more than $250,000 in August 2024 to enhance Mar-a-Lago's "perimeter," and $160,000 in September on police dog equipment.
Since Trump's first term ended in 2021, nearly $600,000 has been spent on security at Mar-a-Lago.
The Secret Service told the newspaper that it has spent "many years" investing in enhanced security at Trump's residences. A Secret Service spokesperson said, "For security reasons, the Secret Service does not discuss the specific means and methods it uses to accomplish its missions."
