Red and White Village Cooperative is projected to create up to 2 million jobs

Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi is optimistic that the 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives program will have a significant impact on labor absorption in rural areas, so that this initiative has the potential to create between one and two million new jobs in various sectors.

In a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, Budi Arie explained that the operation of Kopdes Merah Putih will require various human resources (HR), starting from cooperative managers and supervisors to supporting staff such as truck drivers for logistics.

As an illustration, he gave an example of the potential for labor absorption in the logistics sector.

"For example, if one cooperative needs two truck drivers, then multiplied by 80 thousand, at least 160 thousand truck drivers are needed," he said.

The government is targeting the formation of 80 thousand Red and White Kopdes throughout Indonesia. The launch is planned to be carried out on July 12, 2025. The budget to form 80 thousand Red and White Kopdes is estimated to reach Rp400 trillion.

Budi Arie explained that the process of forming Kopdes Merah Putih will be carried out in two stages. The first stage includes the formation of a deed or legality of the cooperative, which will be verified by the Ministry of Cooperatives. The second stage is training for supervisors and managers of the cooperative.
