UEFA announced on Thursday that Real Madrid, the Spanish champions of the Champions League, topped the list of financial prizes for last season with an amount of 139 million euros.
Real Madrid's share of the total Champions League prize pool, which reached €2 billion, increased by 25 percent this season due to the implementation of the new system, which increased the number of clubs and matches.
Paris Saint-Germain was the second-highest-earning team from last season's Champions League, despite being eliminated in the semi-finals, receiving €122 million.
Meanwhile, runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich tied with each other, receiving more than €120 million.
English club Manchester City received €110 million for reaching the quarter-finals, and an additional €4 million for participating in the UEFA Super Cup, which they won against Spanish club Sevilla.
For its part, Barcelona received €98 million after reaching the Champions League quarter-finals in a season marked by financial difficulties for the club, which resulted in player registrations being suspended at the start of the current season.
