Psychologist from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Novi Poespita Candra, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D. emphasized the importance of teachers and parents having a dialogue with students regarding the choice of majors in high school.
"So, basically, children have awareness of their potential, their desires, and so on, and not the desires of their parents or their school," Novi said when contacted by ANTARA on Monday.
"Have an intense dialogue with your child about what his/her interests are, his/her potential, his/her hopes, or the reasons why he/she enjoys learning, so that together we can find several alternatives that our child might be able to try," he explained.
The observer of child, adolescent and educational development from the Faculty of Psychology, UGM, stated that it is necessary for teachers and parents to provide clear information about each major in senior high school (SMA) along with the options for further education at university.
