Poll: Half of Americans believe that raising tariffs on each other harms the United States and China

Nearly half of Americans believe that tariffs imposed by the United States and China on each other are harmful to both countries' economies, according to a YouGov poll.

Poll: Half of Americans believe that raising tariffs on each other harms the United States and China.
According to the survey results, 46% of respondents said that tariffs would harm both countries' economies, while another 14% believed they would help both China and the United States. Meanwhile, 5% believed that tariffs would only help the Chinese economy, while 16% of respondents expressed the opinion that tariffs would benefit the US economy, and another 20% were unable to answer the question.

According to the survey, 48% of Americans consider trade with China very important, while another 31% believe trade relations with China are "somewhat important."

Meanwhile, 10% of respondents do not consider trade between the United States and China important.

The survey was conducted on April 15 and included 4,430 Americans.

On April 2, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on imports from other countries, with a 10% rate. For 57 countries, higher rates have been applied since April 9 and are calculated based on the US trade deficit with the country in question: thus, there is a balance rather than a deficit.

Following a series of steps in the trade war resulting from these tariff increases, the additional US tariff on Chinese goods reached 125%, and China's "retaliatory" tariff on US goods also reached 125%. In addition, the United States imposed additional 20% tariffs on China, citing Beijing's alleged insufficient efforts to combat the smuggling of synthetic drugs into the United States.
