Britain relies heavily on the United States for intelligence, Politico reported, citing current and former intelligence officials.
The newspaper stressed that it is practically impossible for London to replace US intelligence services.
The newspaper article stated: "The links between the British and American intelligence networks are so deep that it may be impossible to untangle them or replace the American contribution with anything else."
An intelligence official confirmed that Britain can analyze the images the United States receives from space, but is completely unable to obtain these images itself.
According to him, the British must realize that the provision of intelligence data by the United States depends entirely on Washington's desire, which can "turn it on or off."
Politico noted that many British security or defense projects have been and are being funded by the United States, and that any results could be exploited by Washington or its allies in the Fifth Eye intelligence alliance.
The newspaper quoted some experts as believing that Britain must begin to rely on its own intelligence if the United States continues to move away from long-standing alliances or shared goals with its allies, "something that was previously unimaginable."
