Psychologist Joice Novita Kristianto, S. Psi. recommends mothers to pamper themselves after giving birth to maintain mental health.
"Pampering yourself by giving yourself space through pampering activities and self-care amidst the hustle and bustle of taking care of a baby is important for mothers after giving birth," said the psychologist from Bethsaida Hospital Gading Serpong in a press statement on Thursday.
Joice said that pampering oneself is a psychological need for mothers during the post-natal adaptation period.
"After giving birth, the mother's body and emotions experience major changes. If not balanced with time to take care of yourself, this can lead to conditions such as baby blues or even postpartum depression," he said.
Self-pampering efforts can include getting enough sleep, enjoying a warm bath, doing skin care, or enjoying a period of quiet time without distractions.
In addition, new mothers can use time for themselves by discussing their mental health conditions with professionals such as psychologists.
