Streaming service platform Netflix has begun testing a new search feature supported by OpenAI technology that allows users to search for shows using more specific terms.
According to a Bloomberg report cited in The Verge on Saturday, the AI-based search feature allows users to create queries that "go far beyond genre or actor names."
As an illustration, users can search with questions such as "movies that are suitable to watch when you're feeling down" or "series with surprising endings."
The new optional search feature is now available to some Netflix users in Australia and New Zealand who use iOS devices.
Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou confirmed that testing of the new search feature will expand to the United States in the coming weeks and months.
Additionally, he said that the company has no plans to bring the new search feature outside of the iOS platform.
"It's still early days, and we're really in a learning and listening phase through this beta test," Zhou said.
