More than 300 cases of shawarma poisoning reported in Kocaeli, Turkey

More than 300 people have suffered food poisoning from chicken shawarma in Türkiye's western Kocaeli province, NTV reported.

According to information reported by the channel, on the evening of Wednesday, April 2, customers at a shawarma shop in the western Turkish province of Kocaeli began complaining of nausea and stomach pain, and more than 300 people suffered food poisoning symptoms and were taken to hospitals.

The channel reported that some of those affected by food poisoning have been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment, but two remain in critical condition.

Available information indicates that the police have closed the restaurant where the food poisonings occurred. Health inspection authorities have taken food samples from the restaurant for necessary testing, and an investigation has been launched.

Food poisoning is usually caused by eating spoiled food or food contaminated with certain chemicals, bacteria, or viruses. It causes symptoms such as stomach and intestinal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. In some cases, the person may experience fatigue and chills.
