Xi'an - Amid a sea of golden rape flowers in a rural area, a caravan is seen parked on the road, while the mix of coffee and flower aromas wafts in the air, attracting tourists and perhaps some bees and butterflies from all over.
Zhao Hongsheng, a mobile cafe owner in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, uses a loudspeaker to promote a drink made from freshly ground coffee beans to visitors in Mianxian County, Hanzhong City, who mostly visit the location to enjoy its iconic flower scenery.
"My income is about 500 yuan a day," he told Xinhua, noting that this figure is lower than a few years ago.
"The number of tourists has not decreased, but now we have more competitors," Zhao said.
Originally from Baoji City in Shaanxi, Zhao has been running his mobile cafe business for four years. He drives to various rural tourist destinations depending on the season, and sometimes even ventures as far as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, also in northwest China.
In recent years, as China's rural revitalization deepens, transportation, public facilities and supporting services in the country's rural areas have improved significantly.
The rural areas, which offer rural scenery and ideal living, attract many visitors, especially young people working in fast-paced cities, who choose to spend their holidays and weekends camping or hiking in rural surroundings.
According to China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in the first quarter of 2025, rural areas across China received 707 million visits and generated revenues of 412 billion yuan, up 8.9 percent and 5.6 percent year-on-year (yoy), respectively.
