In an effort to improve protection for teenage social media platform users, technology company Meta is facilitating parents to help maintain the security of their children's digital space.
Meta Vice President and Global Head of Security Antigone Davis said the company is working to ensure teens can use social media platforms safely and encourages parents to participate in efforts to keep their children's digital spaces safe.
"Young people need people in charge to ensure that they have a safe and positive experience. Not just about our technology, but also about the online technology they experience across the ecosystem," he said at the 2025 Smart Digital press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Meta introduced Teen Accounts on the Instagram app to minimize the possibility of teens interacting with strangers and being exposed to negative content.
Davis said that Teen Accounts allow parents to have a say in their child's Instagram usage, including setting app access times.
Teen Accounts include features to set live broadcast access for account owners under the age of 16, including who can send direct messages to the account owner.
"We also provide additional monitoring tools for parents. So, kids don't get notifications at night, but if they invite their parents to the monitoring tool, they don't get notifications," Davis said.
