KAI Commuter warns of dangers of crossing level crossings

Jakarta - KAI Commuter reminds the public of the dangers of crossing level crossings because they can threaten life, disrupt train travel, and potentially cause fatal accidents that harm many parties.

"Indiscipline at level crossings not only endangers the drivers themselves, but also the Railway Facilities Crew (Machinists) and all train users in one series of journeys," said KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Joni Martinus when confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday.

KAI Commuter urges people using motorized vehicles to obey traffic regulations at level crossings in order to maintain mutual safety.

Joni said, in accordance with Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation (LLAJ), motorized vehicles are required to give priority to trains when crossing a level crossing.

He said motorcyclists must obey the rules by stopping when the signal sounds, the railroad crossing begins to close, or there are other signals at level crossings.

"Road users must also give priority to trains that will pass," said Joni.

According to him, if all road users pay attention to and obey these things, then incidents such as the traffic accident between the Jenggala Commuter Line Train No. 470 on the Indro-Sidoarjo route and a truck loaded with wood at the JPL No. 11 level crossing, KM 7+600/700 section of the road between Indro Station - Kandangan, Gresik, East Java on Tuesday (8/4) night, would not have happened.
