The Iraqi National Security Service announced today, Wednesday, the arrest of a "cyber hacker" who carried out one of the most dangerous cyber attacks, leaking approximately (1,500) gigabytes of sensitive data.
The agency's media said in a statement, "The Iraqi National Security Agency forces carried out a qualitative operation that led to the arrest of an accused who carried out one of the most dangerous electronic hacking operations that targeted a number of private companies, and leaked about (1500) gigabytes of sensitive data, including personal information of citizens such as names, addresses and phone numbers, and sold it to unknown parties several times."
The statement added, "This crime represents a direct threat to citizens' privacy and information security, necessitating urgent action by the agency to monitor the accused, track his cyber activity, and bring him down before he can leak more data or exploit it for other criminal activities."
The security apparatus affirmed its "full commitment to protecting citizens' data and firmly combating cybercrimes." It also called on "all private sector companies to adhere to cybersecurity standards and enhance digital protection measures to prevent any hacking or leaking attempts."
