Germany prepares a new generation to confront wars and emergencies

The German Ministry of the Interior has recommended the inclusion of educational programs to prepare schoolchildren to deal with wars and various emergency situations, a move aimed at enhancing citizens' ability to cope with crises.

A ministry official told Handelsblatt newspaper: "In light of current security developments, it has become necessary to enhance civil defense awareness, including within the education system."

The ministry clarified that the authority to determine curricula remains within the jurisdiction of German state governments, while affirming the Federal Agency for Civilian Protection's readiness to provide the necessary support in preparing appropriate educational materials for both students and teachers.

The spokesman stressed the need to prepare for a wide range of potential threats, including:

Natural disasters such as floods and forest fires

Cyber attacks

Security emergencies

He added, "Every citizen must have sufficient emergency supplies in their home to last for a reasonable period of time, enabling them to protect themselves, their families, and others when necessary."

For his part, Roderich Kiesewetter, a politician in the Christian Democratic Union party, called for training students on proper behavior during crises, saying, "We must pay special attention to schoolchildren, as they are the most vulnerable group in emergency situations."

This move comes after the European Commission published a guidance document last March urging EU countries to strengthen their emergency preparedness, including providing every household with essential supplies sufficient for three days.
