The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday that approximately 39,000 children in Gaza have lost one or both parents after 534 days of war on the Strip.
The agency added in a statement marking Palestinian Children's Day, which falls on April 5th of each year, that among these children are approximately 17,000 children who have been deprived of both parents.
"These children are living in dire conditions, with many forced to take refuge in torn tents or destroyed homes, with virtually no access to social care or psychological support," the statement said.
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics stated in its statement that the percentage of children and women killed in the Israeli attack exceeded "60 percent of the total victims."
He said: "The aggression resulted in the martyrdom of 50,021 Palestinians, including 17,954 children, including 274 infants born and martyred under the bombing, 876 children under one year old, 17 children who died of the cold in the tents of the displaced, and 52 children who died of starvation and systematic malnutrition (in the Gaza Strip)."
He added, "In the West Bank, 923 citizens have been martyred, including 188 children, in addition to 660 children wounded since the beginning of the Israeli aggression until the date of issuing this statement."
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics addressed the state of education in the Gaza Strip, which has been disrupted for two academic years. It stated that "despite the Ministry of Education's adoption of alternative educational pathways such as synchronous and asynchronous e-learning and temporary schools, data from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education indicates that more than 298,000 students in the Gaza Strip are enrolled in virtual schools."
He added, "Many of these students have been unable to effectively receive their education throughout this period due to the lack of safe areas, in addition to power and internet outages, and the scarcity of necessary equipment, which threatens an educational gap that threatens the future of an entire generation."
