FIFA launched World Football Week and invited the football community to join the celebrations which are planned to take place on May 21-25.
Quoted from a release received by ANTARA, Friday, this event aims to bring together fans, players and the football community for five days full of action, connection and excitement that promotes the power of football.
"World Football Week is more than just a celebration of the game we love; it is a celebration of unity. With the theme 'Together, We Are Stronger'," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
"World Football Week will be an opportunity to celebrate the great power of football to bring people together and also a demonstration of the strength our football community has when it comes together," he added.
At this event a celebration toolkit was developed for FIFA Member Associations, clubs, sports centres and community groups with guidance on how to run local events.
Infantino further declared the event as an extension of the UN World Football Day, which falls on May 25, and launched World Football Week from May 21-25, 2025.
Infantino previously addressed the United Nations General Assembly ahead of World Football Day last year, and the idea was met with enthusiastic support from Dennis Francis, then President of the UN General Assembly at its 78th Session, and the Group of Friends of Football.
This week is expected to give people around the world a longer opportunity to unite through football and experience the joy and peace that the sport can bring.
Meanwhile, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom said World Football Week is a special opportunity for people to come together and enjoy football.
"We thank FIFA Member Associations, and all those involved for their creativity and commitment in organizing and hosting events, so that people around the world can share in the joy that football brings," Grafstrom concluded.
