Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said in a statement that President Sisi is heading to Doha at the start of a Gulf tour (of an undisclosed duration) that will also include Kuwait.
Al-Shennawy explained that "during the visit, the Egyptian president is scheduled to meet with his brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields and to discuss regional developments, particularly those related to the Palestinian issue and efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
Sisi will also hold a meeting with representatives of the Qatari business community to discuss opportunities for economic cooperation, according to Shenawy. The spokesman noted that the Egyptian president will then head to Kuwait, the second stop on his Gulf tour. This visit "affirms the depth of the strategic relations between the two brotherly countries and their shared commitment to expanding the horizons of economic and investment cooperation."
Regarding Sisi's upcoming meetings in Kuwait, Al-Shennawy said, "He is scheduled to meet with his brother, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, as well as with Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, and Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Acting Prime Minister."
Sisi's tour comes as Israel continues its 19th month of genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Egypt is one of the active mediators in the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.
In January 2025, Cairo, along with Qatar and the United States, brokered an agreement between Israel and Hamas stipulating a phased ceasefire in Gaza. Tel Aviv violated the agreement and unilaterally declared the resumption of the war in March.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, reneged on the second phase of the agreement and resumed the genocide in Gaza on March 18, in deference to the most extreme faction within his right-wing government, according to Hebrew media.
