English Premier League club Crystal Palace has officially announced that it has extended midfielder Will Hughes' contract until the summer of 2027.
"I am delighted to sign a new contract," said Hughes, as quoted from the club's official website, Tuesday.
The English player said that extending his contract with Crystal Palace was not difficult, especially since he is now often the main choice.
Hughes has played 32 games for Crystal Palace this season in various competitions and has contributed five assists from a total of 2,117 minutes of play.
"I've really enjoyed my time here so I'm delighted to extend it for the next few years at a time when things are good both as an individual and as a team collectively," added Hughes.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace chief Steve Parish said the certainty of Hughes' contract extension was a relief for them because the English player is now an important player in the team.
"He is a leader both on and off the pitch, a characteristic appreciated by his teammates and supporters, and I am delighted to see him extend his time in red and blue," said Parish.
The central midfielder started his career as a professional footballer with Derby County Club in 2012 before finally moving to Watford in 2017.
Hughes then decided to move from Watford in the summer of 2021 to join Crystal Palace for a fee estimated at 7 million euros or around Rp. 133 billion.
Since joining Crystal Palace, Hughes has played 115 games in various competitions and has contributed two goals and nine assists from a total of 6,481 minutes of play.
