Jakarta - Peripheral artery disease is a condition that occurs when the arteries that supply blood to the arms and legs become narrowed or blocked due to plaque buildup.
According to a Medical Daily report on Tuesday (8/4), this disease can cause limb loss and even death, but is often undiagnosed and untreated.
Peripheral artery disease can develop silently without any obvious signs, but certain symptoms can signal its presence.
Common signs include cold feet, leg pain or cramps during activity that resolves after rest, and sores on the feet or soles of the feet that do not heal.
Physical changes in the legs such as muscle weakness, hair loss, shiny or cool skin, and decreased pulses in the legs can also indicate worsening blood flow due to peripheral artery disease.
This condition becomes more common with age and is especially prevalent among people over the age of 65.
