North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer commented on allegations that a new Rafah city was being built to accommodate Palestinians displaced from the Gaza Strip, asserting that these allegations are "malicious" and that Egypt rejects the displacement in both form and substance.
"I say to those who claim that the new Rafah city is not operational and has been designated for displacement, that I have informed my deputy to visit citizens in their homes (in the city) and document the incident to prove that these are malicious allegations, and that there is no to displacement," Majawar said in a tweet on his X account.
In televised statements on the "Facts and Secrets" program on Sada El Balad channel, Magawir stated that Rafah City was previously inaugurated to confirm that the new city is not intended to displace Palestinians. He also issued directives to film the situation inside the city and the presence of Egyptian citizens there to counter the lies about it being built to accommodate Palestinians.
He added, "Just because the US president makes a statement doesn't mean it's a decision that will be implemented." He pointed out that US President Donald Trump has spoken about displacing Palestinians in Gaza more than once, but his tone has recently changed. He also noted that no country in the world agrees with this proposal.
In this context, the North Sinai Governorate's official Facebook page posted photos of the deputy governor's tour of New Rafah City and his performance of Friday prayers with the city's residents.
The governorate reported that Major General Asim Saadoun, the deputy governor, held a public conference with citizens to identify their needs and demands across various sectors, in addition to reviewing the city's services.
Major General Dr. Khaled Megawer was quoted as saying that Rafah City was presented to the residents of Rafah, "which confirms the refutation of the rumors circulating by some that Rafah City was established to displace Palestinians." He noted that Egypt's position has been consistent from the outset: there will be no displacement of Palestinians.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, Majawar affirmed that there will be no ceasefire in Gaza without Egyptian intervention, emphasizing that Egypt is making significant efforts to achieve this goal. He also noted the governorate's readiness with aid trucks to deliver aid to the Palestinian enclave at any moment.
