Algeria and Mauritania sign a defense agreement

Algerian Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Said Chengriha received Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanena Ould Sidi Ould Hanena on Wednesday. The meeting witnessed the signing of a defense cooperation agreement between the two countries.

The Algerian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Wednesday that "Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, received the Minister of National Defense, Retirees' Affairs and Children of Martyrs of the Republic of Mauritania, Hanana Ould Sidi Ould Hanana, who is on a working visit to Algeria at the head of a military delegation."

She explained that the two sides "discussed security developments in the North African region and the African continent, and exchanged views on various issues of common interest and ways to enhance military cooperation between the two brotherly countries."

The ministry quoted Lieutenant General Said Chengriha as saying: "Algeria and Mauritania, by virtue of the geographical, historical, and cultural ties that unite them, share the same ambitions and the same challenges, which has made their bilateral relationship a model to be emulated in cooperation and integration between Arab and African countries."

Shenqriha pointed out that "the security, economic, and geopolitical challenges facing the region require the two countries today, more than ever before, to strengthen joint action based on an integrated and insightful vision based on dialogue, coordination, and the exchange of expertise and best practices in areas of common interest."

For his part, the Mauritanian Minister of Defense praised "the depth of brotherly relations and good neighborliness that unite the two brotherly peoples," appreciating "the pioneering role played by Algeria in ensuring security in the region."

The Algerian Ministry of Defense revealed that "Chenegriha and Ould Hanana signed a defense cooperation agreement at the end of their meeting," but without revealing any details.

The Mauritanian Minister of Defense also signed the Golden Record of the General Staff of the National People's Army.
