Al-Sudani invites Al-Sharaa to participate in the Arab Summit in Baghdad scheduled for next month.

Al-Sudani said, "The Arab Summit is an important event befitting Baghdad," noting his invitation to the Syrian president to attend the summit in Baghdad.

On March 4, Cairo hosted an emergency Arab summit on Palestine, where a plan was adopted to rebuild Gaza without displacing Palestinians. The plan was set for implementation over a five-year period and would cost approximately $53 billion.

On March 6, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that the next Arab summit would be held in Baghdad on May 17.

In another context, Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, on December 8, 2024, after seizing control of several other cities, thus ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control.

On January 29, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of Ahmad al-Sharaa as president for a five-year transitional period.
