Jakarta - Researchers have found that sucralose, an artificial sweetener used as a sugar substitute, can change brain activity by increasing hunger, potentially leading to higher calorie consumption in the long term.
Quoted from Medical Daily on Thursday (27/3), through a study published in Nature Metabolism, researchers examined how sucralose affects hunger by analyzing brain activity in the hypothalamus, the area responsible for regulating appetite and weight in 75 participants.
Participants consumed water, a drink sweetened with sucralose, or a drink sweetened with regular sugar before undergoing MRI scans, blood tests, and tests to detect hunger levels.
