Study reveals painkillers during pregnancy risk triggering ADHD in children

Jakarta - A new study in the journal Nature Mental Health reveals that children born to mothers who used acetaminophen or pain relievers during pregnancy are at risk of developing ADHD.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times on Saturday, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects mood, focus, attention span and behavioral patterns.

ADHD is a common disorder that mostly affects children. However, symptoms that appear in childhood can continue into adulthood as well.

Meanwhile, acetaminophen is a common over-the-counter pain reliever that helps relieve muscle cramps, headaches, toothaches, backaches, and menstrual cramps. However, when taken by pregnant women, this drug can increase the risk of ADHD in children.
