Jakarta - Actress Shahnaz Haque shares her experiences in educating children, including honing children's ability to think critically and creatively and fostering children's empathy.
In a podcast hosted by the Tanoto Foundation, he emphasized that educating children is not just about teaching them to read, write, and count.
"But it is also about how to hone their critical, creative and empathetic thinking skills," he said as quoted in the foundation's press release in Jakarta, Monday.
"In forming a child's balanced personality, parents play a very important role," said the mother of three.
In order to train children to think critically, he said, parents need to stimulate children to find out and ask questions.
"Let our children be talkative and ask lots of questions, that means their way of thinking is alive and they must be served as far as possible," he said.
According to him, parents should encourage children to think more broadly by providing space to ask questions and not limiting answers with the words yes and no or right and wrong.
He also emphasized the importance of training children's hand motor skills, which now use more electronic devices, to write using their hands.
"Children need to get back to handwriting because it helps them understand what they are learning, rather than just memorizing," Shahnaz said.
