SETARA Institute says implementation of RAN PE is effective in preventing extremism

Jakarta - SETARA Institute Executive Director Halili Hasan said the existence of the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Handling of Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism (RAN PE) is effective in preventing and handling violent extremism leading to terrorism.

It was recorded that there were no open terrorist attacks or zero terrorist attacks in Indonesia since 2023 until now. Halili assessed that the implementation of the RAN PE was the reason behind the absence of these terrorist attacks.

"I think the zero number of terrorist attacks in Indonesia or what is often referred to as zero terrorist attacks since 2023 is one of the things that we can note as an achievement from the implementation of the first phase of the RAN PE," he said as quoted from a statement received in Jakarta, Friday.

Halili explained that RAN PE is a series of systematic and planned activities to prevent and overcome violent extremism that leads to terrorism.

The activity involved central and regional governments, ministries/state institutions such as the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and the community, including non-governmental organizations such as the SETARA Institute.

The three main pillars in the activity are prevention, law enforcement, and partnership. The implementation of the activity is a mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning the National Action Plan for Environmental Protection and Health.

"So, RAN PE is truly a systematic agenda of the state to prevent and overcome violent extremism leading to terrorism with the main approach, namely the soft approach ," said Halili.

The first phase of RAN PE will take place in 2021-2024.

According to Halili, the activities or programs carried out during that period were based on prevention efforts, law enforcement, and partnerships.

For example, mitigation programs, actor mapping, provision of regional apparatus, and community involvement in the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM).
