Prabowo instructs to increase inclusiveness and financial literacy

Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto, in a Plenary Cabinet Session at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday, instructed financial authorities to increase financial inclusivity and literacy in Indonesia.

The Presidential Instruction was delivered by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in response to the provision of banking services in Indonesia which until now have not been optimally utilized by the public.

"So, it was reported regarding financial inclusion where the number of Indonesians who already have banking facilities is around 89 percent," he said.

However, of that number, said Airlangga, only 51 percent actually utilize the available banking services.

In addition, the government also highlighted the condition of financial literacy in various regions. In general, the level of financial literacy in Indonesia shows positive developments, but there are still areas that need more attention, such as Halmahera in North Maluku.

Therefore, the government plans to further encourage financial education so that people not only have bank accounts, but also understand the benefits and risks in financial management and investment.

Responding to efforts to increase financial literacy, President Prabowo Subianto also gave direction to state-owned banks to be more active in educating the public, Airlangga added.
