Police: Padang-Pianan route completely cut off due to flooding

Padang - Police stated that the route connecting Padang City with Painan West Sumatra was completely paralyzed on Wednesday (5/3) evening due to flooding.

"We inform the public that tonight the traffic flow from Padang to Painan or previously was cut off due to flooding," said Koto XI Tarusan Police Chief AKP Donny Putra from Painan, Wednesday.

He said the water level was more than 40 centimeters so that vehicles could not pass through at all.

He explained that the flood occurred in two areas, namely Duku Village and North Duku, Koto XI Tarusan District, South Coast.

The police appealed to road users to be patient and not to force themselves to cross in order to maintain their own safety.

"We ask drivers to be patient because it is still raining and the puddles have not receded, it is better to stop and prioritize safety," he explained.

He also asked drivers who were on their way but were stuck in floodwaters to stop in a safe place.

"Find a safe location, avoid parking on hillsides or under trees to avoid other disasters," he explained.

He said police personnel were still at the location until Wednesday night to provide security and control.

For your information, heavy rain poured down on Padang City and its surroundings from Wednesday afternoon to evening with moderate to heavy intensity.
