Jakarta - Persib Bandung legend Atep questioned the absence of a single Persib player's name on the Indonesian national team's provisional squad, even though the club currently sits at the top of the 2024/2025 Indonesian League 1 standings.
Atep assessed that Maung Bandung, who are currently in promising form, at least have Indonesian players who are worthy of entering the Garuda squad in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian zone.
"I'm also confused (regarding the player call-ups). In fact, there are several players who are actually worthy of being called up but maybe it depends on the coach's taste who needs typical players to face the World Cup qualifiers," Atep told ANTARA in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Atep, who decided to hang up his boots in July 2023, said that the selection of players for the Indonesian national team squad should be carried out cooperatively based on the performance shown by the players at the club.
