Jakarta - Lando Norris put on a calm performance to beat Max Verstappen in the Formula 1 season-opening Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne's Albert Park Circuit on Sunday.
Norris, who leads the drivers' standings, finished the race with a time of 1:42:06.304n or less than a second faster than Verstappen. Third place was taken by George Russell of Mercedes with a difference of 8.481 seconds.
"I pushed hard, especially in the last two laps - to be honest it was a bit nerve-wracking," Norris told the Formula 1 website on Sunday. "...we ended up on top, I'm happy."
The race was held in pouring rain which caused chaos as three drivers crashed before the end of the first lap, and the safety car was repeatedly deployed on the circuit.
