Munster: Win against Persib ends wait since 2018

Surabaya - Persebaya Surabaya coach Paul Munster called the 4-1 victory over Persib a special moment because it ended the wait since 2018 to beat Maung Bandung again in the official league.

"We kept going, once we scored the first goal, I was sure we would score the second, third and fourth. Tonight, overall, their performance was very good," Munster said at a press conference after the match at the Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) Stadium in Surabaya, Saturday night.

Munster assessed that his team played aggressively and energetically from the first half until the final whistle by continuing to pressure the opponent and showing a solid performance throughout the match.

The coach from Northern Ireland also emphasized that tonight's victory was dedicated to former Persebaya player and coach, namely Bejo Sugiantoro.

In fact, he continued, during this week's training sessions, the team had prepared themselves with high motivation to achieve the best results.

"It's a tribute to our former players, our former coaches. We were very motivated for this game. And on the pitch, we showed what we can do," he said.

In the match, Munster also highlighted the role of players in the midfield position, such as Dejan and Toni, who performed well in midfield.

He assessed that the two players were able to play aggressively and provide great energy in the fight for the ball when facing Bojan Hondak's team.

"We, the coaching team, always analyze the game, whether we win, lose or draw. This week's training was also good and it showed tonight," he said.

Moving forward, Munster ensured that Persebaya will remain focused on the next match and adjust the strategy to the condition of the players and hopes that his team will continue to be consistent in achieving victory.

"We scored four goals tonight, which is good. But the important thing for me is that everyone is united and keeps fighting. Now we focus on the next game," he said.

Meanwhile, Rizky Dwi Pangestu, who scored his first goal for Persebaya in this match, admitted that the victory was achieved thanks to full trust in his teammates and coach.
