Jakarta - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that there is no ban on trucks, but only operational restrictions imposed to maintain smooth traffic and safety on the highway during the 2025/1446 Hijriah Eid Transportation period.
The Minister of Transportation said that to ensure safety, security, order, and smooth flow of homecoming and return traffic during the 2025 Eid holiday, the government has regulated operational restrictions on goods transportation.
However, the Minister of Transportation emphasized that the restriction does not necessarily prohibit the operation of freight transport altogether. This is because freight transport can still operate by paying attention to several things.
"This restriction rule was made by considering the service aspect to the entire community. There is no prohibition on goods transportation. So goods transportation and homecoming flow can run side by side," said the Minister of Transportation, in Jakarta, Monday.
The restrictions are implemented by limiting the operational hours of goods vehicles with 3 or more axles, goods vehicles with attached trains, trailers, and goods vehicles transporting excavations, mining products, and building materials.
What needs to be noted is that freight transport companies must carry out distribution using two-axle freight transport vehicles with the permitted weight, the vehicles must operate when there is police discretion, and distribution must prioritize safety.
Then, regarding the loading procedures, carrying capacity and contents of the cargo, vehicle dimensions, and goods transportation documents, they must also meet the technical and roadworthy requirements in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.
The Minister of Transportation further explained that the policy was taken by looking at the 2024 special incident data which stated that in that year there were 186 incidents dominated by the involvement of trucks at 53 percent.
In addition, freight transport with three axles or more has the potential to cause congestion, because its speed is below standard.
