Minister of Public Works ensures giant sea wall project will continue

Jakarta - Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo confirmed that the giant sea wall construction project on the north coast of Java will continue.

The sustainability of this mega project is necessary, said Minister Dody, to anticipate the impact of land subsidence and reduce the risk of flooding in the Jakarta area and its surroundings.

"We have completed the construction of the 12.66 km long northern Jakarta coastal protection embankment. In 2020, the construction will continue with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government with an additional length of 33.54 km," said Dody at the Giant Sea Wall Development Coordination Meeting in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Dody said the PU Ministry has been working with the Netherlands and South Korea since 2016 to study the construction of a sea wall from Cilegon to Gresik with a projected length of 946 km.

For the next stage, namely the construction of the sea wall Phase B, Dody said, his party is conducting a study related to financing and a feasibility study by considering whether the design of the embankment will refer to the Integrated Flood Safety Plan Giant Sea Wall Phase B Jakarta prepared by the Ministry of PU in 2020 or use the 2016 Masterplan from the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas.
