Jakarta - The Ministry of Environment has asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to prepare for the possibility of carrying out weather modification operations to reduce pollutants in the air in Jakarta and its surroundings as an anticipatory measure ahead of the dry season.
Met after the implementation of emission tests on goods transport vehicles and articulated motor vehicles in North Jakarta, Monday, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that air pollution in Jakarta is influenced by a number of factors including transportation, industry, open burning of waste and aerosol pollution or particles in the air originating from various other sources.
"Our aerosol will certainly be with the provincial government to seriously plan that during the dry season there must be proper weather modification operations. So that at least we can reduce the dirty air first, if we cannot reduce it at that time," explained Hanif.
The step was taken considering that historically the level of air pollution in the Jakarta area and its surroundings increases when entering the dry season. He specifically asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and specifically the Environmental Service to prepare for this.
"In the dry season there is no other word, air pollution will not disappear unless we reduce it with rain, so the steps, Mr. Head of the (Jakarta Environmental Agency) need serious funding availability to reduce rain in Jakarta when the dry season approaches. Not to prevent fires but to improve air quality," explained Hanif.
