Healthy diet recommendations during Ramadan and Eid

Jakarta - Digestive problems such as dyspepsia, which causes discomfort in the stomach, can occur when people do not regulate their eating patterns when they start fasting during the month of Ramadan according to Dr. Nur Aini Hanifiah, Sp.PD.

"The problem with fasting during Ramadan, especially during the first 10 days, is that there is a drastic increase in digestive problems, the symptoms, and the most common symptom is dyspepsia," said the doctor who graduated from the University of Indonesia in a webinar attended from Jakarta on Monday.

"Bloating, nausea, and heartburn are the most common problems found when we practice in the clinic, especially during the first 10 days of Ramadan," he added.

According to him, such digestive disorders can occur due to poor eating habits, such as eating a lot straight away when breaking the fast after holding back hunger all day.

"In fact, the digestive system is resting for about 12 to 14 hours when we are fasting. When breaking the fast, it is not recommended to immediately eat a lot or eat excessively," he said.

According to him, symptoms of digestive problems that appear at the beginning of fasting can decrease after the body adapts.

"Because people are used to fasting after the second 10 days, the body and the community are able to control their desires, no longer feel the urge to eat a lot, so the symptoms start to decrease," he explained.
