Good foods to eat to prevent digestive problems

Jakarta - Internal medicine specialist Nur Aini Hanifiah explained the types of food that should be consumed to prevent digestive problems.

In a webinar attended from Jakarta on Monday, the doctor who graduated from the University of Indonesia suggested consuming foods with high water content to prevent digestive disorders, such as constipation.

"Foods that are rich in water, such as fruits and vegetables, are very important. Because besides having lots of vitamins and minerals, they also contain fluids that can help us stay hydrated," he said.

He also suggests consuming foods with complex carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes, and whole wheat bread to meet energy needs; sources of protein such as lean beef, chicken, fish, and eggs; and sources of healthy fats such as avocado and olive oil.

"Because actually our body is mostly made up of fat. The brain also needs a lot of fat, and the intestines actually need a lot of fat for their daily metabolism. So we also have to know which fats are healthy, or unsaturated fats, and which fats are unhealthy," he explained.
