Geothermal has huge potential to power data centers as AI grows

Jakarta - The independent US research institute, Rhodium Group, through its latest findings revealed that geothermal or geothermal energy has great potential to become a power support for the operation of data centers in the future in line with the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The use of geothermal energy as a power source for data centers is interesting because AI is currently growing rapidly and is highly dependent on this digital infrastructure.

In a TechCrunch report, Tuesday (11/3) local time, the research conducted for the US scope stated that advanced geothermal energy could supply almost two-thirds of the demand for new data centers in 2030.

The addition would double the amount of geothermal power capacity in the U.S. — from 4 gigawatts to about 16 gigawatts — at the same or less cost than what data center operators currently pay.
