Doctors say women with autoimmune disorders have a chance of getting pregnant

Jakarta - An internist and consultant allergy and immunology specialist at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Dr. dr. Alvina Widhani said that women suffering from autoimmune diseases have the opportunity to get pregnant and have children, but this does require good planning.

"Is it possible to get pregnant? Yes, God willing, it is possible, but how to make it work well, the pregnancy must be well planned. So, from the start, do not hesitate to discuss it with the doctor who is treating her," said Alvina in a webinar monitored from Jakarta, Tuesday.

He recommends that women or wives who suffer from autoimmune diseases can consult with the relevant doctor so that the pregnancy can go well for the mother and the development of the fetus through proper planning.

Ideally, he said, pregnancy can be planned if autoimmune has been controlled, for example in lupus conditions, at least six months the sufferer should have taken medication with a lower dose and taken medication that is friendly for pregnant women.
