Deputy Minister of P2MI examines opportunities for placing Indonesian crew in Europe

Jakarta - Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Christina Aryani said that her party is studying the opportunity to place Indonesian migrant workers as ship crew or crew members (ABK) in Europe.

He said this at the "Absorb the Aspirations of Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies (P3MI)" event in Jakarta on Thursday (20/3), according to a press release from the P2MI Ministry.

It was stated that in the event, Christina absorbed aspirations and evaluated the placement services for migrant merchant ship crews and migrant fishing ship crews.

He listened to various problems in the placement of ABK and received a lot of input from P3MI in the fisheries sector.

"We also want to gain insight into new markets for ABK placement, because the P3MI fisheries sector is also a working partner of the P2MI Ministry," he said.

According to Christina, there are many new markets for ABK placement abroad besides China, Taiwan and South Korea. Job opportunities for crew members (ABK) in the fisheries sector are also open in Europe, including Spain and Portugal.

Spain, said Christina, needs around 1,000 crew members with salaries ranging from 1,184 to 2,000 euros (around Rp. 20 million-Rp. 33 million).

Not only ABK, job opportunities in Spain also include skilled workers such as technicians and captains.

He also emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of P2MI to continue to review opportunities for placing ABK in Europe.
