Deputy Minister of Manpower: There are still many jobs available for workers

Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan responded to the increasing number of layoffs in the manufacturing sector by emphasizing that there are still many jobs available for workers.

"We will look for industries that open up employment opportunities. On Monday, I will come to Garut, West Java. There are around ten thousand job opportunities there," he said.

Huawei will also open around 30 thousand jobs for the community, he said in his statement in Jakarta, Friday (28/2).

Regarding the issue of layoffs, the Labor Party together with the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) urged the government to protect workers from the threat of mass layoffs as has often happened recently.

President of the Labor Party and President of KSPI Said Iqbal explained that the mass layoffs that have occurred recently are the main reason for the planned demonstration to save the national industry and reduce unemployment rates nationally.

The gradual layoff of almost 1,000 workers at PT Sanken Indonesia until June 2025, for example, is an emergency alarm for the threat of layoffs of tens of thousands of employees in the electronics industry sector.

According to Labor Party records, throughout 2024, hundreds of thousands of workers in the textile, garment and footwear industries have been laid off, he said.

In late December 2024 or early January 2025, the Japanese electronics company, PT Yamaha Music Indonesia, in Cibitung, Bekasi Regency, West Java, which produces export-oriented pianos has laid off 400 workers.

Similar layoffs also occurred in Jakarta against 700 other workers, said Said Iqbal.
