Jakarta - Amartha-mentored micro, small and medium enterprise actor, Lilis Suhartini, has succeeded in developing a worm farming business to earn a turnover of IDR 100 million per month.
Lilis started the business 13 years ago by selling live worms to an acquaintance who worked in a pharmaceutical factory. Later, she received an offer to develop dried worms and worm powder products.
"After attending counseling for one month, I immediately practiced and it turned out the results were good. From there, I made dried worm products and powdered ones," said Lilis, quoted from a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday.
However, challenges arise during the production process. Drying the worms is still done manually with a small oven, making the process take a long time.
Lilis had applied for loans to several financial institutions nearby in the village. However, she faced obstacles in the form of administrative fee deductions that affected the amount of the loan she received.
