Jakarta - Cholesterol is a fat compound produced by the body. However, high levels of bad cholesterol or low density lipoprotein (LDL) can have adverse effects on health because it can trigger various diseases.

General practitioner who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, dr. Zoya Marie Adyasa, M.Res said bad cholesterol with high fat content can disrupt blood flow.

"LDL or bad cholesterol can stick to the walls of blood vessels and will make the blood vessels narrower, so that blockages can occur, the effects can be heart attacks, strokes, numbness," said Dr. Zoya Marie Adyasa, M.Res, in a health discussion when met at the Wisma B ANTARA Office, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The characteristics of high cholesterol include hands and feet that easily become sore, frequent tingling, pain around the left chest, the appearance of fatty lumps on the skin or eyelids, frequent dizziness, and stiffness in the back of the head, neck, and shoulders.

Doctor Zoya shares tips for lowering high bad cholesterol, one of which is by regulating diet, such as consuming vegetables, fruit, and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index.
